What is the breakdown by nationality of the squad?

I feel like Spain could do with another team, of players born and raised in Spain and playing their rugby in Spain. A Spaniards XV.

By place of birth, as some have Spanish nationality (not just for rugby) because of residence or ancestry:
France – 7
Spain – 6
NZ – 3
Argentina – 2
South Africa – 2
Cameroon – 1
UK – 1
Australia – 1

The surprise is, that there are only 2 Argentinians
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

Munilla bros and López Bontempo are busy with their clubs, Calle doesn't convince, Taibo fell injured, front row and wings are reasonably well covered with Spanish guys... The only place where I could see more Argentinians is fly-half and the one that may be called won't be eligible until November.

Some might have simply moved there as kids. In my club we have two Chinese born kids i.e. but the the only kid with Asian parents was born in Germany :D .
How many do you think are really in Spain for rugby, armchair?

In this squad? All except maybe Futeu (although he left Cameroon willing to become a pro player, but you all know his story) and Stewart (works as an engineer I believe even though he moved with a rugby semipro contract). The others like Tauli have settled for family reasons, but came only for rugby.

This is not a consequence of migration, this is totally a consequence of DH clubs hiring foreigners. Spanish rugby needs a deep thought about it.

I guess @RugbyLiebe is talking about Marbella boys, like Joshua Peters and other youngsters from u18&u20s.

Anyhow only 6 Spanish players is really bad from a country with a very good junior system. I will understand that to other REC countries (including Romania) but not for Spain.

Yes, I understood, but there are no Marbella boys in this squad, Koi Hogg didn't make the cut.

The closest to a "Marbella boy" in this team is Stewart.

If I recall it right, he moved to Madrid (together with Norton) to study at the University and play rugby when he was 18. Cisneros is a club of the first division (now fighting for not being relegated) that is vinculated to a college of a University (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, one of the oldest of the country). They offered them free tuition fees and housing in exchange of playing for the team.

I think Robbie McCallum (Scotland u20) has a similar deal with them.

Not quite. He came to Independiente Santander in 2015, then moved to Barça, Cisneros and now Alcobendas. I may be wrong but rather than to study, he came to work as an engineer and he is still an amateur. In any case, hardly a product of Spanish rugby as we could claim about Hogg, Peters, Munilla bros, Davies, Stokes or Ermakov to name a few foreign-born guys from Marbella academy that if called by Spain I would aggressively defend as Spanish.

Really good result for Spain, Russia is a tricky place to win.

Can they beat Georgia and become favourites for the title?

Even if, big if, we beat Georgia, we have never won in Romania...

At least yesterday's win relieves any pressure, we have little to lose. It would have been harder if three straight defeats left us fighting to avoid relegation.

Sorry if this question was already considered.
What about Samuel Ezeala - is he going to play for Spain?

Unfortunately, yes, this is a repeated question, but I get your interest. No. And even if he wanted to, he's injured long-term.

The only guys we may be really missing this week are Alvar Gimeno, Beñat Auzqui, Xerom Civil, maybe Segonds if he accepts to become our fly-half and maybe some guys from sevens if they considered a switch.

Joe Schmidt confirmed as Classic All Blacks coach for May friendly. He is in Barcelona for a press conference with national team this Thursday:

I don't like seeing our team distracted in the middle of REC, but I guess it is the moment of maximum exposure for promoters of the game.

FER claims we are nearing 40,000 tickets sold. My maths indicate 36,000...

I don’t think this will distract Spain at all, it might spur them on knowing big days are ahead. Joe Schmidt will take this role seriously, obviously a world class coach. These are games Spain needs.

36,000 tickets sold 3-4 months in advance is very welcome news.
