They chose to be misleading under the misguided idea this will somehow increase the exposure of the women game. Any moron could tell you you can fool people into watching a sport. If you're a casual or someone new to the game you would have no idea that logo is for a women's world cup. They are going to find out rather quickly, especially when the Rugby League World Cup is on in the same year, just how much they've set back women's rugby. But really, I shouldn't expect anything less from this inept organisation. The ones who I feel sorry for are the women who have been made invisible by this ridiculous decision. Unfortunately they are going to have to suffer the consequences of this braindead idea. I will be will to put money on it they revert to calling the Women's World Cup after this.

Huh, looks like they got rid of the placement fixtures (7th place, 9th place, etc).

I'm kinda bummed about that. The placement matches often featured teams that generally don't play each other too regularly. How often can you see Spain vs Hong Kong? Or Italy vs Japan? Or Samoa vs Kazakhstan?

On the other hand, I'm really pleased with the introduction of quarterfinals.

It was already announced some time ago. And yes, it is extremely unfortunately and quite ridiculous that they had to make a choice between quarterfinals and placement games...

With an eventual passage from 12 to 16 nations we would have more cross-continent games during the pool phase. Let's hope they decide it for the next edition. Considering that this autumn two teams between Italy, Ireland, Spain and Scotland (#5, 9, 10, 11 in the world rankings) will be drop out from the World Cup, I think too there's room for an enlargement to 16 teams.

The next qualifying match should be Papua Guinea v Tonga, "to be played early in 2020" according to World Rugby; the game is confirmed but at the beginning of january the date was still not known

Bill Beaumont talking about expansion and creation of regional tournaments here, although he didn't really say anything really interesting. Nations Championship concept for women's rugby doesn't seem to make financial sense for them:

Uberidiculous. As World Rugby social media profiles probably can no longer say "Women's Rugby World Cup", Spanish version literally claimed 2021 will be "the first RWC hosted in Southern Hemisphere":

Congrats to the brilliant minds who contributed to the cock-up, it won't be the last.

I count 31 nations involved in the World Cup qualifying; a light increasing respect to the last edition, if I'm not wrong

7 qualified thanks to the WRWC '17 placement
New Zealand, Australia, England, France, Usa, Canada, Wales

2 qualified via regional tournaments
South Africa, Fiji

15 still on the race
Tonga, Papua Guinea, Samoa, Colombia, Brazil, Japan, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Spain, Netherlands, Russia, Kenya, Italy, Ireland, Scotland

6 eliminated
India, Singapore, Philippines, Madagascar, Uganda, China

1 withdraw
Germany

Total
Europe 10
Oceania 6
North America 2
South America 2
Africa 4
Asia 7

Problems in the Kenya team ahead of Tokyo 2020 and RWC qualifying http://ragahouse.com/news/item/kenya-li ... rs-dropped

According to the article the RWC qualifying barrage between Kenya and the winner of Colombia v Brazil is set for april and it's a single game on kenyan soil. The same article anyway puts the repechage tournament in june and that's impossible; it could be june 2021, maybe, even if I knew that it should be on november/december 2020

The Olympics are in July, it is possible to have the Repechage in June. Countries will have to split squads.... which is not a smart decision from WR. Should be no earlier than Late August.

In september there are the european qualifications, it can't be before that. World Rugby said it will be at the end of 2020, the date ("june") in the kenyan article must be a mistake

I think that they probably mixed it up with the 7s repechage which is in June. Having both the 7s Olympic and 15s WC repechages in June doesn't make sense at all.

The Asia qualifying tournament has been moved eight weeks ahead, due to the coronavirus
The new hypothetical dates are 4, 8, 12 May

This saturday there's Papua Guinea v Tonga, play-off on the qualifying path
The winner will meet Samoa in the next step

I was mumbling about how many test matches has been called off due to a major force, in the last months

In men's RWC England-France, New Zealand-Italy and Canada-Nambia because of a typhoon
In women' WRWCQ the three Tonga's games because of measles
In women' Six Nations Scotland-England because of a storm (played the day after, without spectators)
In women' Six Nations Italy-Scotland because of a virus epidemic

From Samoa women team twitter page

Oceania Repechage
Game II
Manusina vs Winner of Tonga vs PNG

Game II will be played in Samoa in April. The winner of Game II will travel to Europe later in 2020 for the Global repechage

29 February - wider squad announcement
21 March - 26 player squad announcement

So, two news:
- Samoa v winner barrage will be in april
- the repechage tournament will be in Europe

Apparently the three games of the Asian RWC qualifying have been postponed again. All the Asia Rugby competitions until june 30 will be re-fixed in new and still undefined dates, due to the virus outbreak.
Maybe this could affect also the dates of the intercontinental repechage, supposed to be played around november
