The first leg of the World Series 2019/20 was in december. Maybe the october's Hong Kong could be anyway kept as a qualifier.
But, yes, maybe you are suggesting that it's too risky to have a qualifying tournament that could be cancelled in any moment in the next months

Maybe it is too late. It could OPEN the 2020-21 Series...

Tomorrow WR will do an anouncement, as the article says.

Yesterday the chilean muleteer that in 1972 saw the exhausted Canessa and Parrado on the other side of a mountain river, communicated with them through a paper wrapped to a rock and went to ask for rescuers, died at the age of 92.

Vina del Mar is relatively near to the place of the plane accident, around 350 km. The plane, voyaging from Montevideo to Santiago del Chile, felt at the peak of the Andes, one km from the border between Argentina and Chile. 29 people died, 16 survived

Vina del Mar is where in the map there's Valparaiso; the red mark indicates the place of the 1972 tragedy

Even if I doubt they have called an italian referee for a tournament in South America

In red are the referees for the first leg in Viña del Mar:

CDF stands for Canal Del Futbol

CDF is the local cable channel that broadcasts the Local 1st and 2nd Division Football national team and other football related events

The reason they are carrying the 7s Challenger is because ESPN does not have a presence in Chile but most importantly because they are more than capable of producing a sporting event of this magnitude

Streaming seems confirmed on CDF youtube (and facebook, plus tv), and I doubt it will be geoblocked

Judging by the comments under the announce by the same CDF, the chilean football fans are not enthusiast about the intrusion of rugby in their tv schedule: "oh, rugby, I can't wait!" (with a snoring emoticon...), "is this not supposed to be a football channel?", "rugby? So why not women's football?"... and so on. There were 24 comments and all of them negative. It has to be said that also in Italy many football fans don't love rugby

Argentine Scrum.com anounced they'll broadcast it live on their website.

As the only tier 1 nation, Italy should win this.

It's unlikely. Not impossible, but unlikely. Teams like Germany and Japan seem a bit stronger than Italy, and teams like Uganda, Portugal, Tonga, Hong Kong... maybe also Brazil and Zimbabwe, could be a serious obstacle for the azzurri

I think this could be the first time ever an italian national team plays with Uganda and Paraguay, but not sure about

The crane was in honor of the Uganda's players surname "cranes"? :)

Lol. Yes, strange backdrop for a photo. It was a good omen though, the Cranes winning the first match of the tournament against Italy.

Let me repeat it, LOL at the idea Italy were favorites. Uganda has been quite competitive when invited to World Series tournaments, something Italy can only dream of at the moment. Not because they lack potential, of course they could be competitive if they wanted to, but because FIR couldn't care less about 7s.

Fair enough. Any talented Italian players are urgently required at Treviso or Zebre, and playing for the Azzuri in the Six Nations, not having a jolly in Chile.

Japan barely won against Uruguay. This will be a tough tournament for them if they don't improve.

Uganda and Zimbabwe are to be reckoned.

Mexico and Paraguay aren't up to level.
