Good news. Let's hope that World Rugby take note of that March 8th's Guatemala v El Salvador and consider it an official game, even if at this stage of their adventure this is not so important

If the unions (especially the home union) applies for test status it will very probably be granted. Problems in the past have been that unions like Zimbabwe were not applying, rather than staus was being refused.

"Also included will be the 2025 British and Irish Lions tour of Australia, which comes around every 12 years, a trimmed down round-robin Super Rugby - without the Sunwolves - and a new women's Test championship that is yet to be announced by World Rugby."

Having spoken to El Salvador and Guatemala an official request has been made for the match have official Test Status, There is also pencilled in a match against Costa Rica in April. I believe Guatemala will be the opposition but is not confirmed which of the two teams.

"First women XV match in the region". It should be the absolute debut for both the nations in a test match

Guatemala leading 22-5, according to ScrumQueens/Wally https://twitter.com/ScrumQueens

Even if the match was officially recognized, I doubt Guatemala and El Salvador could be inserted in the world ranking, tomorrow: no one of the two federations is a full WR member. Guatemala is associated member, El Salvador no member

Final score
Guatemala 50
El Salvador 5

The Torogoces scored the first try, then eight (I suppose) tries by Guatemala

That's very true - WR won't recognise this as a test if any of the teams are not full members.

I agree with that as well, I was speaking to Guatemala and both Federations and were told they were going to get some recognition but what would that constitute is anyone's guess.

Sudamerica Rugby has been very silent on this match. not sure what to make of it. The fact that Central America have decided to follow their own course speaks volumes of the governing body and how they are running the sport and development at the lower levels.

That's it. Guatemala and El Salvador fielded women's 15s teams before Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay.

Particular note: in Guatemala's team the girl deputed to jump in touche was the fullback

and the girl deputed to the penalty kicks was a second row (number 5)

A little curiosity: Estefania Salami Baena, the first scorer of a try in a women test match in Central America (https://scontent-fco1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/ ... e=5E8DA2C6), is a former Venezuela 7s player.
Estefania wore the Venezuela 7s jersey in the Olympic 2016 repechage tournament and she was indicated also as part of the group that attempted the qualification to Tokyo 2020.
Having she never played for Venezuela XV (a Venezuela XV doesn't exist at the moment) I think she can play for El Salvador, if she has the requirements. I don't know why she is now in El Salvador. Maybe escaped from Maduro's country?

The fact she has moved is not surprising, A lot of Venezuelans have moved Panama and Costa Rica so stands to reason some have moved further North, The question of eligibility will be interesting to see what kind of recognition the match gets.

The problem with this match they didn't advise the governing bodies on time or advise them far too late. many of them didn't know until last week. I still want to see what kind of support will come out of Sudamerica Rugby still no news on any of their channels even an acknowledgment the match too place.

They wrote it first on Twitter then on FB not sure if it's the same write up. But took them long enough to acknowledge the match.

Good Idea BTH, With news that in most cases, there'll be a double header for Rugby Afrique games:-

In another step up for womens’ rugby in South Africa, the Springbok Women celebrated International Women’s Day on Sunday with the news that they will defend their Rugby Africa Women’s Cup title between May and July, with the tournament featuring a historic first Test match in Madagascar. This year’s Rugby Africa Women’s Cup marks the second edition of the tournament, with the Springbok Women set to play three matches – against Uganda on Saturday 30 May in Pretoria; Madagascar on Sunday 28 June in Antananarivo; and Kenya on Friday 3 July in Cape Town. The match venues will be announced at a later stage. Kenya, Madagascar and Uganda will cross paths with one another in the other three matches, with the team accumulating the most log points at the end of the series being crowned the champions.

<snip>

The competition format differs this season with the matches being staggered over a longer period across a handful of venues in each of the participating countries in line with Rugby Africa’s objective to host the women’s event concurrently with the men’s tournament. This will see some of the matches in the other countries being played as curtain-raisers to the men’s games.

<snip>

Springbok Women’s Rugby Africa Women’s Cup fixtures:
Saturday, 30 May – Springbok Women v Uganda, Pretoria
Sunday, 28 June – Madagascar v Springbok Women, Antananarivo, Madagascar
Friday, 3 July – Springbok Women v Kenya, Cape Town

Tunisia is not part of the World women ranking, so I suppose they've never played a test match.

We know that also Portugal XV is revamping its women XV team, so probably both Tunisia and Portugal are searching for an opponent this year; they could meet for a match!

They're going to play a match versus Algeria at the end of this month!

Par ailleurs, la ville de Msaken abritera le 28 mars une première rencontre maghrébine de rugby à XV féminin. Elle opposera l’équipe nationale de Tunisie à son homologue d’Algérie
https://fr.africanews.com/2020/03/04/de ... RBVTWE2Fg0

Note that no one of the four club participating to the Tunisia women XV championship is based in the main cities. Three are located near Monastir (but not in Monastir) and one in a little town in the north. No one in Tunis. Also the town of Msaken, deputed to host that maiden test match, is near Monastir (it's marked in red in the map)
