Super 13 - Brazilian Championship
The 1st phase has ended last Saturday. Here you are the final standings: http://www.portaldorugby.com.br/tabelas ... rasileiros

Relegated: SPAC
Relegation/Promotion playoffs (date TBA): Charrua vs Joaca (if Joaca confirms their Taça Tupi title, they're very close...)
Repechage for the QFs[/b] - on Oct 19th:
Serra Gaúcha vs Band Saracens, in Caxias do Sul
Quarter-finals - on Oct 26th
São José vs Serra Gaúcha/Band Saracens, in São José dos Campos
Poli vs Desterro, in São Paulo
Farrapos vs Jacareí, in Bento Gonçalves
Curitiba vs Pasteur, in Curitiba

And the Semifinals + Final will be played during tests window, when Brazil faces Portugal and Barbarians. This means, clubs will decide the title without their Tupis. Easy to understand why people don't like the way things are managed from the top...

There isn't much news here, but it will be in Brazil

Serra Gaúcha (from Caxias do Sul) beat Band Saracens and reached for the first time Brazilian QFs. They'll visit São José. Serra Gaúcha is the third club from Rio Grande do Sul to ever finish in Brazilian top 8 positions.

Re: Rugby in Brazil
With the proximity and some cultural similarities to Uruguay and Argentina it seems like that state could become a rugby stronghold.
Re: Rugby in Brazil
It is already the 2nd state with more clubs and players and also the only one other than São Paulo that has more than one club in the top flight (3 clubs: Farrapos, Serra Gaúcha and Charrua). But they are yet to win the national title.

Re: Rugby in Brazil
The first Super13 semifinal was played yesterday. São José and Pasteur asked to anticipate the match because they are full of Tupis' players. São José won: 30-23.
The other semifinal will probably be on Nov 9th, Poli vs Farrapos. Poli would love to anticipate it too, as they are packed of Tupis, but Farrapos isn't and they stood by the original date. Poli is trying to make it a double-header with Brazil-Portugal, in the same stadium, just after it. It would be great.
Btw, Farrapos-Jacareí QF was a troubled one in Bento Gonçalves. Some Jacareí players suffered racial abuse by some Farrapos's supporters, that also menaced the assistent referees. Farrapos is being judged by the Supreme Court of Sporting Justice. VERY BAD. And not the first time in the city (their football club has been punished in the past because of racial abuse too). Let's wait.

São José 10 times Brazilian champions.
FINAL: São José 29-19 Poli. Both clubs packed with Tupis and former Tupis.
Complete video of the match in http://www.portaldorugby.com.br/noticia ... brasileiro
BTW, Rodolfo Ambrosio is not anymore Tupis' head coach. Fernando Portugal will be the interim head coach. Ambrosio's salary was too big for CBRu's current financial situation (and World Rugby wasn't paying it, I confirmed).

São José's field is in a park. There isn't an official count, but probably around 500 people.

Ambrosio's salary wasn't the issue > https://www.espn.com.ar/rugby/nota/_/id ... y-positivo
The causes for my departure are very simple. I presented an HP plan the last two years which could not be carried out due to economic reasons. I presented another plan for 2020 but it didn’t have the resources to be sustained so I made the decision to step aside.
Re: Rugby in Brazil
It was too. I know from inside. They coudn't even keep the current money invested there. Ambrosio asked money for a project, not increase in his salary. But the truth is they coudn't even keep affording the current costs.

On Saturday 30th the last Super 13 match will be played: the Promotion/Relegation Playoff between Charrua (from Porto Alegre) and Joaca (from Florianópolis). Match in Porto Alegre. Whoever wins will play the 2020 top division, the Super 12.

Re: Rugby in Brazil
Regarding the curumins defeat, in the 2000s there were a few national championships which the participants had to bring an U19 Team with them and play before the main match.
Considering rugby is much more popular now, would it be realistic to consider an U18 Super12 to be played together ?
I have been outside of Brasil for almost 7 years, so I'm trying to understand why we still cant make under age rugby happen

Re: Rugby in Brazil
It never really happened. Clubs were supposed to bring the U19s, but the reality is that some didn't and weren't punished. So they scrapped the idea...
I don't think rugby is that more popular now. Rugby's number of clubs and players and almost the same since the late 2000s-early 2010s. The boom ended by 2015. The rest are fake numbers including tag rugby kids that never convert it to contact rugby.
It is not feasible. Only São Paulo had U20s (with only 4 clubs) and a U18s (with 6 clubs) 15-a-side championships in 2019.... and not all SP top clubs fielded teams... There were half a dozen clubs from other states playing U20s 15-a-side friendles, but not real competitions. We don't have 12 U18s teams....
Who would field U18s? Jacareí, São José, Pasteur for sure. Probaly SPAC, Curitiba and Farrapos, maybe Desterro and Pé Vermelho. That's it.

Víctor :
Your figures are demolishing. ¿How is the CBRU filling the Academies? With youngsters from these 10 clubs only? Or they are intoducing into Rugby good athletes who practice other sports?

Re: Rugby in Brazil
Basically yes, and São José, Jacareí and Pasteur are usualy the majority of the Academy. In São Paulo the U20s had São José, Jacareí, Pasteur and a combine of Campinas region clubs (Piratas, Tornados, Cougars, Halley). In U18s São José, Jacareí, Pasteur, SPAC, Iguanas and another combine of Campinas area. Ilhabela joint forces with Taubaté and fielded a team in the U16s championship, while URA and Rio Branco played friendlies and maybe will field teams next year. Talking about 15-a-side, obviously.
There are players appearing in other states as well, as many other clubs have junior 7-a-side or even 10-a-side, like Joaca, Guanabara, Rio, Niterói, Charrua, Serra Gaúcha... Rio de Janeiro has 7s competitions, Rio Grande do Sul 10s. But there is a big difference of having players and offering them REAL competitions...]]
If you look at top division clubs, Poli and Band Saracens have zero junior. Band Saracens have at least kids rugby. Poli is promising to kickoff work for so long and until now nothing...
CBRu has a program of identifiying athletes from other sports and offer them to leading clubs.

Re: Rugby in Brazil
The last result is another example of how this system is flawed, specially for underage rugby.
