After Rovigo-Padova (34-34), Rovigo's coach Casellato was furious with his southafrican hooker Momberg, sinbinned for an un-needed foul when the squad was winning 31-27, few minutes before the end of the match.
"We are a group, not single players but this missed victory is a single player mistake and I can't accept it -he said more or less- If someone doesn't want to follow the rules of the group he just have to say, no problem; we will choice an other player more interested in the group"

Checked those two spots

https://www.epcrugby.com/challenge-cup/matches/

Well done -- one clicks on result and sees detailed game sheet

No similar joy for this one

EPCR staff just needed to add 2 more games to 20
they have already done -- but BIG NO
they do not care for those low-tier BASTARDS :!:

However, the champion ( Dendermonde) who has a couple of decent KIWI's and some good belgian players is not going to send any players.
Some players also refused the selection because of the lack of organisation around the competition.

It will be interesting to see how the guys will play together as they have not trained together yet.

According to a contributer on this forum: http://www.sportkipik.be/la-buvette/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20864 this Barbarians side originally was to be based on a core group of 20 players from champion side Dendermonde. In line with how Heidelberg did last season, this team was to be strengthened by players from other clubs. For the games and the preparations the facilities of Dendermonde were to be used. When Dendermonde asked to field up to 7 foreign players instead of the domestical limit of 5 however this was denied by the FBRB, the Belgian union. Since then talks have become deadlocked with ultimately Dendermonde withdrawing from the project.

I do not expect the Belgium Barbarians to do well but have to give them the benefit of doubt.
But to me it is another example of the tension between the ambitions of (semi-)professional clubs and amateur unions or, albeit more rare, ambitious unions and amateur clubs.
It appears to be very difficult to get them aligned. We have seen it in Germany, we know about the tensions in Spain and now this in Belgium.
To me it's among the biggest challenges in tier 2 countries.

I don't know the requirements, but EPCR competitions have some kind of limits on non-EU players anyway. It was one of the long list of excuses given by Spanish teams, saying that meeting these rules was even harder in European games than domestic ones.

Belgium Barbarians v Petrarca Padova 12-31

Zero tries to four. Both the kickers had a 100%
Padova was clearly superior but the Barbarians showed a more than decent opposition, the bonus try was marked just at the last action. Considering they are freshly gathered, missing the Dendermonde players and with no strangers, I suppose they may be satisfied
