2018-2019 Rugby Europe Competition
Couldn't find a relevant thread, so here we go.
The idea being to post what is known about this competition and the structures/teams etc, known to date. My brain hurts when I try to figure all that out
My understanding is that the schedule and pools get sorted at the RE AGM which I believe is soon?
I was thinking for this season I would start a thread for each different comp. rather than for each game. Use this thread to start it all and for discussions and handbag episodes of a general nature. Your thoughts? I don't mind a thread for each game if that is preferred.

Re: 2018-2019 Rugby Europe Competition
I seem to recall one of the Georgian users saying the AGM was at the end of June though I saw nothing about it. Still waiting to hear when this playoff between Romania and Portugal will be!

1N look so weak if Moldova doesn't improve. Ukraine isn't anymore what it used to be...
Re: 2018-2019 Rugby Europe Competition
Polter posted on another topic that the fixtures have been published for the season. It contains the date of the play off between Romania and Portugal, but have also included Romania and Portugal in the fixtures. You would imagine that it's a template based on which team is the highest seed.
Unusually they even have fixtures for the development competition already in place.

Re: 2018-2019 Rugby Europe Competition
The same list published by Dwpeate, but week by week instead of pool by pool. It assumes that Romania will defeat Portugal in the play-off; in the opposite case the names of Romania and Portugal have to be switched

Wow, we will play again in Spain (if we beat Portugal first of course). I was expecting the next game to be in Bucharest. That will be a tough one

I had a brief look and apparently they always do the same thing at the start of a new circle. 6th (Romania/Portugal) vs. 1st (Georgia), 4th (Belgium) vs 3rd (Germany), 5th (Spain) vs. 2nd (Russia).
Same goes for day 3 when the 5th ranked Spain welcomes 6th ranked Romania (/Portugal).
Haven't checked other dates, but this sounds logical.
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

YES, they DO -- we too in GEO, for all comps:

Ahh, I was wondering how come we're playing Georgia in the first round. It's going to be a little bit weird.
Re: 2018-2019 Rugby Europe Competition
Somewhat relevant, today begins the UEFA Nations League, which pretty much mirrors the tiering system of the Rugby Europe championship.

Russia should play in one of these tournaments.
This is suitable for us according to climatic conditions.
And in winter let others play. Russia is not profitable.
Or play in Asian Cup.

And why should we do this?
And how will this help us in the off-season?
I would on the contrary spend matches in Krasnoyarsk at - 30 C.
Or in Moscow at - 10C.

Re: 2018-2019 Rugby Europe Competition
I really like Artemiev but he does not understand that Russia has no chance in Europe. We lose points in the winter.
We must play in Asia.
We must play in Asia.

Re: 2018-2019 Rugby Europe Competition
The only games worth playing in Asia are against Japan, 2 games. In Europe you have Georgia, Romania, Spain, and maybe Germany in the near future.
Re: 2018-2019 Rugby Europe Competition
Maybe there could be a special arrangement in which you play in the Rugby Asia Championship as an invited team.

We can play tests with anyone.
Russia is placed in discriminatery conditions and forced to play in winter in the inter season without a chance to win tournament.
In Asia we will play at a convenient time of year and second place and participation in Repechege is provided to us.

Russia has no chance of participating in WC. We lose points in games in winter at an inconvenent time.
In this case.

Re: 2018-2019 Rugby Europe Competition
But at moment need to follow all directions of European rugby.
Do yours want to play in Russia in winter?
Okay! In Krasnoyarsk!
What would each visit to Russia be memorable and unforgetable.

Re: 2018-2019 Rugby Europe Competition
The new European clubs calendar that will be in place from 2020 will maybe allow the REC to be played in another period, maybe in April and May.
Let's see:
- Top 14/Prod2/Premiership/PRO14 payoffs will be in June, therefore April and May will be regular season months with only Champions Cup/Challenge Cup quarter and semifinals.
- Premiership and PRO14 will probably avoid matches during the 6N, having their own cups in the period;
- Top 14/Pro D2 will have matches during the 6N anyway;
- It will be possible to place an entire REC calendar in the space between Champions Cup/Challenge Cup QFs and SFs...
- If the REC is played in April and May, players from those countries that play in France and England would need to deal with their clubs. So the challenge here would be World Rugby make it mandatory for French/English clubs to allow their REC players to play in April/May. It might be possible because those players would be available during the whole 6N window. Maybe? That's a matter of compensation. The only reason I see to have the REC in the 6N period is because countries like Spain, Georgia and Romania have many players in French leagues.
