Is Portugal playing with the (mainly home based) squad announced some weeks ago or are they calling overseas players for this one in the end?

Germany was alledgedly calling the best they could, but with the Bundesliga final played this past weekend they won´t have much time training together...

Honestly don't know. The rumors are rife. I think if we are lucky we get the squad who travels early Thursday morning. Could be all the foreigners, could be none.

So... FPR decided to keep playing same division. New FPR same politics .

Not even Jose Rodrigues or Pedro Bettencourt called...

I don't know what to say. I wish them all the luck , and I am annoyed that I can't go. But it feels like the FPR doesn't want to go up. Im amazed. Jacques Le Roux has been an impact sub all season for Birmingham in Nat1 , they narrowly avoided relegation ( with his last minute try) but I doubt he has a full game in him at this level. Where is Tadjer, Bettencourt, Rodrigues, Bardy.... so many names missing. I still think we can win, but if we do I doubt it will be a convincing win.

Well, even Jean Sousa was not called for this game and he has played against Poland and Netherlands. This does not make very sense...

Montauban has a new coaching staff , Jean sousa might have been preasured to stay for pre season.

Let's not forget that no one gets paid in the portuguese team.

Most of the pros shouldnt fancy playing an international game and risk an injury witouth any compensation.

German lineup

Image

No Hilsenbeck, no Haupt, but a positive surprise appearance by Els, who was supposed to be injured.
The return of Poppmeier should give us stability in the forwards again, in general they look very strong even without Haupt.

Not sure who will play where in the backs.
Menzel should be a save 9, the rest is open. Surely Coetzee and Parkinson will be in the starting lineup as well.

Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

Bit disappointed with the omission or absense of a few names... putting aside the fact that we never saw the likes of Otilo Kafotamaki with the German jersey (funny though since he has played at a certain level of clubs for a while, and in a position where Germany lacks a boost); the initial list for this game had the likes of Racing 92s Zani Dembele, Cameron Lindsay (from Pumas in South Africa -another player that seemed a good find), Chris Hilsenbeck (after having quite a good season) and Kurt Haupt, who I suppose is focused in looking for a club again as he seems to be without one for a while -or at least he doesn´t seem to be announced anywhere!-

I guess Maxime Oltmann isn´t Mike Fords cup of tea as he keeps being ommited of the National team despite not being injured...

Speaking of injuries is Hagen Schulte injured by any chance? as he is also not in this squad!

Given the importance of it, and that all seasons are over -or almost- it would have been good to see the best team Germany could field out. Regardless of Portugal´s almost same situation.

I read that Schulte and Els were both injured. Els is now in the team, Schulte not. Dembele might have chosen 7s. Hilsenbeck is said to be also a bit injured.
The rest of the post is exactly what I think about this.

Thanks for the update.

Yeah, I mean, I could also add Schramm to the list, but I´d be just talking from what he played like a year or two, haven´t seen a Houston Sabercats game to say if he´s currently playing well or not... perhaps an MLR follower could enlight us.

Anyway, fingers crossed.

According to DRV Facebook page, Jonathan Dawe is out and Jarrod Saul (Hannover 78) came in instead of him.

good luck to both sides. very hard to find a bookie who will take odds on this sadly.

25 - 37 with ten minutes to go

Tense final minutes with Portugal still in the lead: 32 - 37

Parabéns Portugal.

And sorry for RugbyLiebe and mulu, but given the shithouse German rugby has been the last two years we can't say it was undeserved. Let's now see if Portugal can provide pro standards.
