Thanks, fixed.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Gold, given his comments and his squad split, go with a 6/2 split on the bench, though.

David Ainu'u is out for the remainder of the World Cup. Chance Wenglewski has been called up to replace him.

Thanks for the update. Any word on whether Hooley might need to be replaced? Looks like he's at least out of the France game based on comments by Gary Gold.
I was surprised Chance wasn't included from the outset. Since he's coming over late, I expect Fry and Kilifi to play vs France.
I assume Mikey Teo will start at FB in that match, which is fine by me since I think he's an exciting player. With Hooley concussed, Magie should make the bench to backup AJ.

Hooley won't be. He's in return to play protocol. I suspect Brache will start at FB and Campbell at Outside Center.

They didn't say, this is pure speculation, but I'd say a grade two ankle sprain. I knew it was a sprained ankle.

ETA: Peter Tiberio has retired from Rugby.

Do you have any idea on where did the "Rugby World Cup" 11 M$ revenues that USA Rugby declared in 2018 came from?

From your link: that's the 7s World Cup. So they made a minus of 750k USD.

"Rugby World Cup 2018, LLC (a Delaware limited liability
company) was formed in 2017. Rugby World Cup 2018, LLC (RWC)
is a single-member LLC, with the initial sole member being
USARP. In May 2018, RWC was transferred to USARP's sole
member, USA Rugby. RWC was formed to (a) promote the sport of
rugby and further the purposes that USA Rugby is authorized to
pursue, (b) to host and operate the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens
tournament in the California bay area, and (c) engaging in
other activities as may be reasonably necessary to pursue or
accomplish the foregoing (collectively, the Business). The
Business of RWC may be conducted directly by RWC or indirectly
through another company."
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

Overall I thought those numbers were really good when you consider the time for the majority of the games. This was only across the 28 games they showed via linear and doesn't include their NBC Gold package viewership. But I know they exceeded their NBC Gold package sales target by 80%.

Agreed. Tough time zones and good numbers. Lots of non-rugby friends were texting me about the matches they watched unprompted too. And if NBC is happy that's a good thing!

Not likely. We're set to host the French Barbarians in July. However, November in St Petersburg? I wish I was rich, that would be a fun one.

USA Rugby to be decentralized or something. The plan is to have all of the people involved with the current setup come up with a new plan on how to fix it.

https://www.usa.rugby/2019/12/usa-rugby ... ask-force/

It sounds like they would basically be asking a small number of volunteers at local and regional level to take over responsibility for things they have failed to do.

A bit more complicated than that, you have some of the voices out there claiming for this to be decentralized. You mean you want the same people who have been creating the policies at the committee level that the National Office has to enforce to run the community game? We could save a shit ton of money from the community game if we killed national championships for D2 and D3. Then put that money back into youth rugby.

If anything decentralization could lead to the destruction of the sport.

The whole thing has been a shitshow for as long as I have been following rugby. I remember the guy who ran Gainline.us doing a good job of exposing what went wrong during the Doug Arnot era but he eventually gave up, probably out of frustration. I think a lot of people could relate to that.
