According to the logo, it's the 4th edition of the Arab 7s.

Day 2 results so far:
Egypt 72-0 Sudan
Libya 26-0 Iraq
UAE 14-12 Jordan

Last matches in group:
Iraq v Sudan
Egypt v Jordan
UAE v Libya

EGY 4-0 (179-22)
UAE 3-1 (108-48)
JOR 3-1 (138-31)
LBY 2-2 (101-59)
IRQ 0-4 (0-140)
SUD 0-4 (0-226)

Looks like Egypt will win this. Would be nice to see Iraq and Sudan score some points. They will now have 2 games against each other (last group stage match, and 5th place match). UAE looks slight favourites to reach the final, but Libya could reach the final if they beat UAE in the last match.

Note: Libya (not Lybia) - this seems to be quite a common spelling error!

Yes, 4th edition, sorry; I trusted on my memory and of course it was wrong.
72-0 is tough... Should be 12 tries in 14 minutes

About time! ;)

Uganda just beat Senegal 31 - 0 in rain. Can't believe we have better weather today than Tunisia...

Tunisia 5 - 26 Zimbabwe

Earlier Uganda beat Ghana 41 - 0 apparently.

Tunisia will play Uganda in the 1/4s allegedly. Zimbabwe won their pool.

So it must be pre-decided which group winners will play which runners-up.

If not, then Tunisia are guaranteed to finish at least 6th in the first round, so they would avoid 2nd placed Uganda (who would play the 7th place team).

I don't know if that info was reliable though, so best wait for the official Day 2 draw.

Commentators keep saying it's a shock that Madagascar are beating Zambia.

Unfortunate that people with no knowledge of African 7s rugby are commentating.

Madagascar beat Zambia 26-7 for 3rd place last year, and they beat them 40-0 in 2016.

Apparently this is Day 2:

Cup quarters:
Kenya v Zambia,
Uganda v Tunisia,
Zimbabwe v Senegal,
Madagascar v Morocco.

Bowl:
Botswana v Namibia,
Ghana v Mauritius

5-8 Semis:
Loser Ken/Zam v Loser Mad/Mor
Loser Uga/Tun v Loser Zim/Sen]

Semis:
Winner Ken/Zam v Winner Mad/Mor
Winner Uga/Tun v Winner Zim/Sen

Then placement matches (11, 9, 7, 5, 3, final).

Nice final photo for Arab 7s. I suppose the green ones are Iraq; those with "Emiratis" as sponsor are Emirates; those with DHL should be Libya; those with Land Rover should be Jordan and the black&yellow jerseys (good ones!) must be the unfortunately scoreless Sudan

If I'm getting it right and everything stays the same next year, either Sri Lanka or the Philippines will get a shot at playing at the HK World Series. Hong Kong should be playing in the qualifier, as well as the better of the previously mentioned two teams

I just tuned into the live stream from Tunis but they seem to be on a loooong break.

Well the 11th place will be between Botswana and Mauritius, so does this mean they will be relegated for next year to make way for promoted RD Congo and Cote d'Ivoire?

Roonba has the results of today's games so far at http://www.theroonba.com/rugbysevens/men/2018.html

Semis seem to be about to start at last. Today's link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8kNBuJCy8E

Well that was a bit of a turn up with Kenya (B/C/whatever), having looked a class above all opposition thus far, getting beaten by Zimbabwe in the final who themselves seemed almost dead and buried in the semi against Uganda until a yellow card turned things right around.

Congrats to Zimbabwe, winners for the first time since 2012.

Uganda beat Madagascar in a close game for 3rd place.

World Rugby has called the expansions from 10 stops in the World Sevens Series off two weeks ago. We only know that now, because this week the city of Munich has granted the Oktoberfest 7s tournament 200k each year to make the deficit smaller until Munich has its next chance in 2023.

So the Oktoberfest 7s will be from 2019 again a showcase event, but will move from the 2nd to the 1st weekend of the Oktoberfest (which is always one weekend in october and two weekends in september).

So we have a city council in the richest city of the biggest economy in Europe which is absolutely down to help a virtually unknown sport (which still drew 21k in its first year), but World Rugby messes up again and doesn't give them a spot on the World Series. I am a little bit biased here, but come on, what more are they waiting for? Where is the strategy behind that? How on earth will you create new markets, if you don't even take this golden opportunities? What more should happen? Are they waiting for their lottery ticket to win?

Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

I'm not surprised by this I remember talking to people running the NZ tourny of the World Series a couple of years ago and from what they said the players were keen to keep the stops at 10. The economics definitely make sense but maybe WR ain't keen on expanding to 12 stops and maybe its more likely a current stop will lose its place. There is also the hope of a 2nd tier circuit which could be playing a role in these decisions and making expansion to new cities a possibility.

Then you slowly increase to 11 stops. Problem solved. And as much as I am for player's safety I don't see this problem with 7s tbh. Actually this will make more players full-pros and therefore will reduce injuries. I doubt a single 7s player is playing to much because of solely 7s.
There will not be many opportunities to expand to Germany. Especially if you keep on wasting the obvious ones.
