Uruguay is set to host U20 ARC in June, with that tournament deciding who goes to JWRT representing both Americas:

The JWRT qualifier for South America is next month in Montevideo.

Would it hurt to add Paraguay, Colombia or Mexico? Another 3 x 3 round robin would be a bummer.

Belgium beat Netherlands in their recent U20 friendly by 10-36:

It sounds pretty impressive for a program just relaunching against one of the most improved teams in recent years. Does anybody know the kind of team the Dutch gathered for the occasion?

The dutch team was actually a club team, URC (Utrecht) playing in the top 8 at the moment, however ending up the re quite miraculously after finishing 16th place in last year's competition structure. Difficult to rate the Belgium performance based on this opposition I would say.

I was wondering about that. No mention in the Dutch press that I could find. And the red/blue stripes of Utrecht RC look similar on the photo to the orange/blue stripes that the NL U20 team usually wears.

Rugby Europe keeps the collective training camp model for lesser U18 nations they started last year to replace Trophy:

U20 Trophy confirmed in Spain:

Unfortunately it won't be in a place that will gather much spectators, La Vila. Millionnaire Juan Roig supports the tournament via his Fundación Trinidad Alfonso

Before the Netherlands Ukraine match last Saturday there was a match between NL U20 and the Dutch students team. The students won, which must be disappointing for the U20s. The students only trained together twice.

At least they lost against players from their own country?

That's true. Although there are plenty of foreign students in the Netherlands, the students team was made up of natives. But it does raise questions about the selection policy and/or coaching if they can be beaten by another team of young Dutch players. Of course the students could have all been over 20, and most of them probably were, but still I don't think the U20 team would have been happy with it.

I was at the game, u20 used at least 40 players, coming on and off the field multiple times so it was messy. I also did not see any of the foreign based players so I don't think they will be too worried about the result.

Ah, ok. I didn't see it myself but spoke to a friend who coaches one of the student clubs.

According to Switzerland two out of these three previously mentioned will qualify for Rugby Europe U20 Championship. Given there were 5 national teams in 2019 and Belgium have restarted they program, I assume Germany has declined to take part in it...

So Uruguay seals its ticket to U20 Trophy after a good second-half v Chile (FT 29-11, HT 10-11) and Paraguay beats Brazil in extra time to rob them of their spot in ARC U20 later in the season.

Hong Kong lost to Taiwan at Asia U19 Championship and there is a strong chance they will miss U20 Trophy either because South Korea defeats them in the last game or because Taiwan beats Singapore by a large enough margin...

Round 1
Hong Kong 47 - 20 Singapore
Chinese Taipei 7 - 22 South Korea

Round 2
South Korea 32 - 28 Singapore
Chinese Taipei 28 - 15 Hong Kong

Standings after Round 2
1. South Korea - 9 points - +19
2. Chinese Taipei - 5 points - -2
3. Hong Kong - 5 points - +14
4. Singapore - 2 points - -31

Doubt it. Paraguay does not have the pool of young and talented players to accomplish that in the near future. If anyone from the bottom is to surpass Brazil in a few year's time then that team will be Colombia.

Neither has Brazil. Our junior rugby is smaller than Paraguay's. We had in 2019 only 6 clubs playing U18s competitions... And Paraguay has just beat us in U19s...
