Youth Internationals
Re: Youth Internationals
According to AmericanRugbyNews, Laporte didn't give for sure that the JWC is abandoned but he said that the event will be at very least postponed. This should mean "probably abandoned but maybe just posticipated"

It is strange that about abandonment or postponement of JWC should make statement WR high official not President of FFR.

Soon-to-be vicepresident of WR.
Re: Youth Internationals
But it was not an official statement, as far as I've understood. Laporte had a phone dialogue with World Rugby (Beaumont?) and the newspaper Sud Ouest was able to catch from him some news. I can't read the whole article -you have to be a subscriber- but it seems to me that they didn't use quotations of the Laporte words (" "), so it must be not even an official interview

Re: Youth Internationals
Does U20 Trophy make sense if U20 Championship is cancelled? How long will they delay the decision considering continental tournaments won't take place before July? Would there be any promotion?

U20 Trophy is gone. It only took three months and the cancellation of every single regional tournament as well as U20 WC to confirm it...

Re: Youth Internationals
Is Agustín Pichot hinting at no U20 competitions at all in 2021?

Additional question: is Agustín Pichot ready to basically burst all news surrounding World Rugby from now on?

Re: Youth Internationals
But was then understood what he was meaning?
I stil read posts on twitter where people say "it's emerged that the World Cup U20 2021 is at risk of cancellation" and I suppose that it all originated by that tweet. Was he really referring to the Junior World Championship? And are there confirmations that it is at risk?

Wikipedia says that the JWC 2021 will be hosted by the United States
NZ Rugby says that Italy is confirmed as 2021 host
Do you know something more certain about?

There is a funny guy messing with U20s Wiki pages... remember when someone put Barbados as host?

Re: Youth Internationals
Thanks, I had missed the article.
I wonder why they already decided to renounce to that tournament (and they started to plan this decision several weeks ago, considering the "famous" pichot's tweet): is it more sacrificable than the other international tournaments, like the 7s ones?
Maybe the difference is that the 7s events last just two days and they have already a venue and an organization committee, so they may be called off also with little advance, while a JWC would be organized "from zero" and it would be much more complicated to control with several venues and several weeks of games.
This could mean that other one-venue&many-teams tournaments, like the Euro U18, the Euro U20 and the Euro7s are at high risk

Re: Youth Internationals
I really believe it's a question of funding. Sevens have the Olympics next year and are funded by Olympic committees. It would be hard for some unions to justify their expenses without any competition, whereas U20 and U18 fully fall on rugby unions responsibility.

Re: Youth Internationals
From the Czech Republic/Czechia RFU website:-
In the youth categories, the European Championship is planned in Russia and the European U20 Championship in Portugal. The term of the U20 European Championship will certainly be postponed to July/August. Again, with regard to the latter two actions, a final decision is expected by the end of February. When asked by the Czech representative whether qualification will also be open for both of these categories, or what the principle of selecting the countries to be invited to these two tournaments will be, it was stated that there is currently a plan to open the qualification for all candidates, which for the U20 category means that the Czech Republic should compete against Germany, Switzerland and Poland to participate in the U20 tournament. The U18 category is still in the preparation phase.
