There used to be a team from Lugano in the top tier of Swiss rugby, I guess they must have got relegated.

They are in second category, out of four categories; one category above important german-speaking cities like Bern, St.Gallen, Schaffhausen, Luzern. Not bad. But apparently it's the only italian-speaking club in the swiss senior championship: no Bellinzona nor Locarno are fielding a senior team, if I checked correctly

But what are the costs of pre-game "anti-covid tests"? If around € 7,000 were spent on Pro14's Zebre - Benetton, the cost for a TOP12 match should be around € 5000 (2,500 per team). Lower cost linked to various aspects, including the lower number of people involved especially in the technical staff.
...
With the Treviso coach we tackled the issue of economic expenditure linked to pre-match buffers. "We will carry out about 40 swabs for this friendly match."

“Is it a sustainable cost? No, it cannot be sustainable because only a few companies can afford this expense, we are talking about € 50,000 per season ”.

“In Italy it is clear that tampons can only be made in TOP12. In France, where the championships have already started, tests are carried out only in the first three categories (TOP14, PROD2 and PROD3), the professional championships ".

If for the friendlies the costs of the tampons are charged to the teams, for the championship it should be Fir to bear the expense, probably with the € 320,000 "saved" by the renunciations of Medicei and San Donà.

Can we return to play without testing in the lower leagues?
"We must return to play, the movement must continue to live and the sport machine must continue" concludes Casellato.

Saturday 10 October is the date identified for the start of the TOP12 championship (now TOP10). Rumors in the environment, however, much more prudently, indicate 17 or 24 October as the date for the restart of TOP10 and minor leagues.

According to a quick search, more than one third of the games in the top categories of the french championships were postponed in this last weekend

0/7 games postponed in Top14
2/8 in ProD2
1/7 in Nationale
9/20 in Fed1
4/8 in Elite 1 (women)
3/5 in Elite 2 (women)

19/55 matches postponed

It will be not easy for any championship to play all the scheduled games

The less pro a tournament is, the likeliest it is to suffer postponements. Guys at semipro levels cannot afford to go from home to training sessions and back home while regularly tested like pros.

Just one covid serologic test before the beginning of the season here in Italy, for every player and staff member of every championship; after that, just a body temperature measurement before trainings and games. The national team, instead, will have regular covid tests during the season

The competitions restarted in Croatia and regional competitions have begun also in Germany, so we can say that rugby is played or is going to be played in the next weeks almost in every nation, in Europe

Rugby championships started today in Portugal and Netherlands, with the first day of the new season.

In Finland the season 2020 ended this afternoon, with Helsinki Rugby Club triumphing in the final against Warriors, 40-29
The championship scorers ranking, maybe not updated with the final day scorers (today there were also the finals for the 3rd and for the 5th position) https://finland.rugby/list/mens-champio ... ts-scorer/

National championships suspended for two weeks or more in Poland, Czech Rep. and Belgium, as far as I know

In Italy the tournaments (men's Coppa Italia and women's championship) start this weekend but it could be a "marathon steeples" season. One Coppa Italia game has already been postponed.
I hope that at least the autumn test matches, men's and women's, will go on as planned

Time is ticking for Belgium then. Might we see Netherlands promoted by default?

In Luxembourg all suspended since today and until new communications

In Switzerland the clubs are free to suspend their participation in the championships, with no sanctions. The idea, if I've understood, is basically to restart from zero after the winter pause with a new format for this season

In Italy the competitions go ahead but in this weekend three out of four Coppa Italia games had to be postponed

Italy: the beginning of the Top10 slides from this saturday to saturday november 7. All the other championships (senior and junior) will start just on january 24.
A new protocol has been prepared for the Top10: an anti-covid tampoon will have to be taken on every player every week, while the previous protocol asked just one tampoon before the first game of the season

Germany is back in lockdown starting on monday. So starting from then all practices and games are not allowed again.
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

Out of the 14 test matches, men's and women's, once fixed to this weekend, just 6 are left.
Postponed or cancelled two women Six Nations matches, Saf-Arg, three REC games, one RET and one women Euro Championship match
