Postby Scoob » Sat, 20 Mar 2021, 18:55

I heard the commentators mention about under 18 tournament in 7s and 15 coming up?
Can someone confirm this that it has not been cancelled.

Rugby Europe wrote that yesterday or two days ago
- XV tournaments (men and women) cancelled from Trophy downward
- U20 and U18 tournaments moved to summer

Does that mean that U18 European championship will be held?

Tentatively, hopefully, yes. In July or August, apparently

I got info from GRU. They confirm that U18 tournament will be held in summer, if pandemic situation allows. No other details.

If Georgia put out there top under 20 team, they should beat all opposition by 50 points.
Matkava,Niniashvili,Kokhadze,Shvangiradze etc mixed with the lelo club youth team demolition of all opposition

If it goes like this, we risk to loose u20 generation. What was a main motivation of our young players? To have successful performance at RWC U20 and to be invited by European clubs. Only hope is that GRU can manage to send U20 team to any international tournament (in previous years it took place in South Africa).
Nowadays pandemic is the main obstacle.

Considering how tight budgets are for many unions and how little some U20 and U18 have played this season, I can't see these tournaments happen with normal play-off formats and 8 teams. Maybe it would be wise for Georgia to enter with two different teams if they have enough depth.
