Re: Russian Rugby
Armchair Fan wrote:Given we are in a Tier 2 forum and we know a bit better about the realities of rugby in such countries than most mainstream rugby journalists, I'd take that article with a pinch of salt. Russia is doing a great job... at promoting itself first and foremost. Hiring foreign coaches and players leads to them talking to media, which generates momentum by itself. They are doing a great work on the comms side too. But we are yet to see a real and sustainable improvement on the field to judge any kind of real progress.
Part of building success though is also trying to get people's attention and for the most part the Russians are doing a good job of trying to elevate the sport in the country. They seem to have the most active social media account of all T2 nations and they are trying to play in bigger and more modern venues too to make the sport look like a more premium product for TV. So even though the results aren't yet making their way onto the field there's a lot the other REC nations can learn from in terms of trying to drive publicity and attraction. I would much like to see a larger co-ordinated effort from the REC and Rugby Europe in general to try and draw more people in, especially people from T1 nations.
Re: Russian Rugby
I got a great idea. Now in Vladikavkaz (North Ossetia), the Spartak stadium is being reconstructed. This is a stadium with 30,000 seats. It is played by FC Alania. They were very strong in the 90s. They were famous for their typical wild Caucasus fan support. Like in Tbilisi.
I suggested, let's play the Russia v Georgia game in 2022 in Vladikavkaz!
Moreover, the Russian national team has two Ossetians Azamat Bitiev and Khetag Dzobelov. The atmosphere in the stands will be like in Tbilisi! Ossetians hate Georgia, just as Georgians hate Russia. I think everyone knows why. Russians are neutral towards Georgia due to its small size. Therefore, the matches Russia v Georgia in Krasnodar, Sochi and other cities do not arouse interest among the broad masses of Russian people. But in Ossetia it will be a mega event!

Re: Russian Rugby
Firstly, wait and see in which place RUS finish at REC 2020
to work out its seeding number #
It should be
EVEN = 6 | 4 | 2 = to host #1 in 2021
ODD = 5 | 3 = to host #1 in 2022

I will not forget my trip to Vladikavkaz in fall of 1992. “Spartak” won with a large score and stons were thrown at our bus ... It is unlikely that Georgian fans will go there, this is not Sochi ...

Re: Russian Rugby
In Krasnoyarsk, on the territory of the Avangard stadium, the Enisei-STM recovery and training center has been built.
The center has everything for the recovery and recreation of rugby players. Swimming pool with large (25 meters) and small baths, equipped with the latest technology. Two rooms - for cardio and fitness and a gym. Lounge and dining room. A modern rehabilitation center with the most modern equipment - ultrasound, UVT, Game Ready and much more.
Now rugby players of "Enisei-STM" can practice in the so-called "full cycle" mode. This is how the training process is organized in the leading PRO clubs. Simply put, a player arrives at the stadium in the morning and spends a full working day without moving anywhere.
The grand opening is scheduled for March. And the team of Enisei-STM plans to test the new recovery center at the end of this week.

Re: Russian Rugby
The new training and rehabilitation center opened the doors for the rugby players of the main team of Enisei-STM. The pool, sauna, relaxation room - all this has already been tested by the players. The impressions are most positive.

Ahead is the launch of a gym, as well as cardio and fitness rooms, a children's room and a power supply unit. Very soon, the complex will fully open its doors, including for the residents of Krasnoyarsk.

Start over.

Russian film about rugby. After a series of life failures, the coach is forced to return to his native provincial town [Lesosibirsk, 300 km from Krasnoyarsk]. An unplanned trip to his native land will turn into a difficult test to atone for old mistakes, which will help to rethink values and return the meaning of life.

Latest news from "Slava"Moscow . For drunkenness Gene Willemse SA was kicked out and a contract from Rewita Biddle NZ was signed ...

Re: Russian Rugby
But Biddle is declared for VVA and cannot play for Slava. And what about Willemse, did he go to South Africa or to another Russian team?
