Looked like a pretty healthy attendance in the Burgos game

"Healthy", eh? I see what you did there... :D

Burgos has a decent fanbase, but unfortunately this season the amount of people that can attend games changes from week to week depending on COVID restrictions dictated by regional governments. You find games from the very same league varying from 0 spectators to almost 1,000.

Manuel Ordas performed well for Bayonne at the weekend.

Early days but seems like a decent kicking/running 10. Spanish rugby must be doing cartwheels.

Given Georgia’s limited attack Spain could really give them a run for their money. Qualifying for France 2023 would be unbelievable for them. Getting carried away here but group games in Toulouse & Marseille would be close for Spanish fans!

It's promising (yes, fans are going nuts) but we are yet to see Ordas against a tighter defense such as the ones any would expect from Georgia, Romania or Russia. Portugal and Brive games were quite similar in that aspect. Anyway, a great addition because Spain was clearly lacking originality in attack and line+maul was starting to be easily countered by rivals.

And unfortunately I doubt anybody in RWC committee will think of Spain when selecting host cities for each game. Main criteria seems to be that every city needs to receive at least a Tier 1 game.

I’ll conclude by saying a tier two player at 10 in the Top14 at the age of 22 is always encouraging! I’m sure he’ll keep on developing and mature around 26/27. Let’s hope Spain can find a few others like this!

Which is logical. Even football is doing it, by putting one "major" team per city at least once.
But hey, even if you play all your game in Lille (that won't happen), that would still be closer from Spain than everywhere else there could be a WC in the years coming ...
And considering that 6 stadiums are in Southern France, that should be manageable to go to France for fans.

Yes, but it won't be the only place. Unless I've got it wrong, there will be an international feed provided by World Rugby on its channels, a Twitch one in Spanish commented by regular Real Madrid basketball speaker, finals broadcast on regional TV channels like Telemadrid (Madrid) or Canal Sur (Andalucía) and highlights on Amazon Prime Video.

Spanish watch

Samuel Ezeala back from injury this weekend. Hopeful he declares for Spain.
Louis Bruinsma would have made his debut tonight playing ProD2.

Unfortunately there are big doubts regarding Louis Bruinsma eligibility for a senior Spanish national team. He was definitely eligible for U18 and probably U20 because he lived here since his early teens and his family was settled here (it often justifies selection for underage sides, as guys may just be studying abroad for a while), but once he has left and is playing professional rugby abroad I don't think he can be covered by residency rules as he hasn't lived over 10 years in Spain (non-consecutive way of being eligible).

It's an interesting debate as there are players eligible for other national teams who undoubtedly reinforce our U18 and U20 sides (really, I'm not bringing into question that if they are selected it's because they are the best out there), but if you know their chances of being able to play for senior side are slim maybe you are wasting our scarce resources on them and impeding others to progress. For one reason or another we have already seen Paulos playing for Argentina, Arasanz playing for Andorra, Ezeala flirting with France, guys like Davies, Stokes or Bruinsma whose eligibility status is unclear as they no longer live in Spain, Peters (even though he finally committed) and Pichardie delaying their first cap because of EQP rules in England... At the same time, it's pretty cool to listen at TV commentators say that these guys once were U18 or U20 Spanish internationals and some sort of guerrilla marketing that other non-traditional rugby nations can't benefit of as they haven't such kind of 'ambassadors'. I really have no clear position on the matter.
