Sure but I’m talking strictly from a commercial point of view (which I believe would eventually translate to a better national team). More $$ to Spain = more money to Spanish rugby clubs = greater infusion of talent.

Yeah. Spain would be a far more palatable of a destination for many travelling fans than Tbilisi. Certainly easier to travel to.

And I very much doubt we would have done any better than Russia at the RWC. Maybe in their horrible warm-up game in Italy, but not at the RWC.

In the amateur era. Sure. But certainly not in the professional era. I'd suggest that there wouldn't be a lot of difference in quality between the two leagues these days with from what I can see the DoH being generally better supported.

Given how hard it is every year for Spanish champions to beat a bunch of Portuguese amateurs at Copa Iberica I'd be less optimistic than you regarding our chances against Italian Top 12 clubs.

Good to see. I’m not 100% sure who the backers of this are but presume the union aren’t in a position to underwrite it. Will the union make any money from this event?

The backers are a private company called Kiwi House, owned by a woman with a marketing background and the Canterbury NZ representative in Spain, well connected to NZ embassy and with links to NZRU after holding All Blacks Clinics in Spain for young players the last two summers.

I haven't seen any details on how much will FER earn from this but the usual modus operandi is asking for a % of ticketing revenues in addition to any fee. This is what happened with EPCR finals in Bilbao 2018 or last Copa del Rey finals.

The rescheduling of División de Honor is important as a recent poll by @JuanCouselo on Twitter revealed as much as 45% of the voters, which one would think are hardcore rugby fans and wouldn't miss such an event, don't intend to attend. And even though some may not be able to given it's on a Friday night, there have been others (Valladolid, mainly) upset by the fact it might clash with their clubs.

I didn't know that Spanish rugby organisations were allowed to make sensible decisions! Spain seems to be one of the more promising T2 nations when it comes to getting decent crowds for big games.

On a different note, I was walking through my little hometown the other day and saw my first bit of FER clothing in the wild. Took my 2019 haul of T2/3 sides stash spotted in my hometown to 7: Georgia, Russia, Fiji, Poland, Germany, USA and Spain.

Yes, apparel merchandising is another thing working reasonably well. Now I'm not even that surprised when I spot somebody wearing FER shirts or sweatshirts even if some feel a bit old because we've had like three or four providers in the last decade. At least it looks like FER found some stability, Joma is staying until 2024.

Because quite a few will want to play next May at Wanda Metropolitano and fans won't forgive if people who didn't show up earlier in the season are called.

That is not certain, it is decided this week in World Rugby.

@Armchair: when RWCQ will be at stake, nobody will give a toss about who's come and who didn't in 2020.

For those who were awaiting news on Classic All Blacks match ticket sales, it's over 35,000. A bit underwhelming, my maths indicated 38,000 at this stage, but promoters stopped their ads right after Christmas and don't seem set to open new grandstands or launching new advertising campaigns until February. It should still be in the healthy 50k, but the idea of selling out is far right now.

Hi Armchair.
Would you please clarify which is the playoff set for DH?
I've searched on FER website, but I wasn't able to find it.
Who will be involved on the playoff basing it on the table? Just four or there's a barrage first?
Thanks!

Top Six. QF involving 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th, then SF with 1st and 2nd awaiting rivals at home.

That's why when we talked about Catalan teams some weeks ago I told you they need to be able to beat Valladolid teams away to be real contenders.

Thanks a lot!
I prefer this system instead of the TOP12 one, where there's a double SF between 1 Vs 4 and 2 Vs 3.

Off course Catalan teams should be better to pretend to get over the Valladolid obstacle. I suppose they will need pretty more time and some more effort to close the gap.

In any case I remember that Barça was pretty for a long time relegated to second or third class division before coming back to the main one some years ago.

I do hope they could be able to set a good club, involving more players and maybe also some good crowd soon or later.

Let's see.
In any case thanks for the informations!!!

Cheers PR-WSM
