Update: A testament to fairly decent protocols in the Uruguayan Rugby. After the two Covid-19 positive cases at Los Cuervos, an ample "testing and quarantine" plan was implemented. 100+ negative tests later to everyone that could have been exposed, it seems that the virus did not spread neither to team mates, rivals nor referees. So...all good and everything back to "normal" (whatever that means these days)

Before Uruguay was flattened by Argentina XV in the South American 4 Nations on Sunday, on Saturday the local tournament kept going: Old Christians remained undefeated and quarter finals started to shape up. Two more rounds to go (10/31 and 11/7), before play-off (quarter, semi and final)

Congratulations !! The country whith the best management of the Pandemic in the region and one of the best in the World. I suppose the effects on the Economy have been minimal. Are the other contact sports also running their tournaments?

Hola, amigo. All major sports (soccer, basketball, naturally rugby, etc) are active in Uruguay at all level (pro and amateur). The protocol for the practice of full contact sports (boxing, martial arts) is yet to be approved but should be out in November, as per National Secretary of Sports.

On that same Twitch link that it was posted in the SLAR thread (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/842081355)

Minute 44:07 (approx.) Hourcade talks about Facundo Pomponio, Prop that played for Olimpia Lions (not sure if he is playing in Fed 1 or Spain right now, but has an interesting rugby CV) becoming eligible for Uruguay...

I understand these others may not be in contention for a place in the National team, but Gaston Szabo is a second rower in Bagneres (Fed 1) mind you he is 36 and hasn't been called for the National team for a long while despite playing in France for more than 10 years, Reinaldo Piussi Mendoza is only 21 and was part of the Espoirs at Oyonnax, can't remember his former club; Carlos Pombo in Drancy (also Fed 1) Hooker only 30..., and Francisco Martirena is also 21 and could eventually be within a NT list...

Nice set of games for Uruguay. Hosting Wales before the South American RWC qualifiers. Plus playing at Italy, Tonga (game will be in Romania), and Romania during the end of year tour.

Uruguay v Wales June 26th or July 3rd
July will also be the South American RWC qualifying tournaments.

October will be South America 1 vs North America 1 series. October 2nd and 9th will be the match dates. (I am assuming that Uruguay will be South America 1)

November tour with the match against Italy on November 20th the only confirmed date so far.

I think these fixtures for Uruguay are getting a bit lost here, these are exactly the stepping stone a tier two team like Uruguay really need.

Wales (July)
Italy (November)
Romania (November)
Tonga (November)

In fairness the games against Romania and Tonga should be winnable. I wonder by the time of the next world cup will Uruguay be ahead of Georgia. They appear to a solid high performance centre which to paying off for them.

I absolutely disagree. In my opinion, Uruguay has <10% victory against Tonga and <5% victory against Italy. The match against Romania would be tied though.

PHHT. Tonga are hardly the most consistent tier 2 team, I would say that game is least 50/50 and the Italy game will be more of a challenge and will be more like 20% chance of winning.

We defeated Fiji, so you never know. Of course it depends on which players appear on each side.

In addition, there will be a Super 4 tournament, where each super team will feature players from multiple clubs (Old Boys, Old Christians, Carrasco Polo and Trébol will be rivals).
