That’s good, too often you see u20s fall off. It happens in the US but that makes sense because the country is so big you can’t bring all the players together.

Rumours that all high performance academies will be closed except the main one in São Paulo. This will affect more the Curumins (Brazil U19s) than the Tupis (as they'll be all professionals with Corinthians).

I think the ARC U20 is only South American, with these three qualified + Argentina.

According to BC Rugby News, it includes the US and Canada. Important to note that this is just a news/blog site for Canadian rugby so it's not official word, though the guy does have his ear to the ground.

Then there's the ARC U20 tournament in Uruguay in June. We haven't seen anything official on this either but it's new for 2020. Normally Canada play USA in a two game series, the winner goes to the JWRT. It's USA's turn to host this year. Apparently that has changed and Canada will play USA in Round One of the Uruguay tournament and the winner of that match will go to the JWRT in Spain. This is preliminary information until World Rugby or Rugby Canada confirm with an official announcement.

Rivera, an Uruguayan city in the border with Brazil, is hosting anualy a very nice sevens competition. Farrapos, from Brazil, won the title for the second year in a row: http://www.portaldorugby.com.br/noticia ... no-uruguai It had also clubs from Argentina.

Antiqua, from Brazil too, won the women's tournament.

The 1st division has 16 teams and the 2nd division 12.

Once more, Uruguay and Chile doing a good preparation for Punta and Viña (this year the World Series 2nd division) while Brazil isn't.

Argentina 39-10 Chile
Uruguay 19-7 Paraguay

Chile 31-14 Uruguay (5-14)

When was the last time that Chile beat Uruguay in youth rugby? At least five years right?

Very poor result for Chile. They did well in the group level but were defeated by Nordeste in QF and later on by Córdoba. The team must improve if they want to repeat 2019 results in Punta and Viña.

Mayor B? Mayor C?
Are they definitively abandoned? I think many south and central America nations didn't compete in a continental championship, in 2019. Included Venezuela, Peru and Costa Rica which were traditional competitors in the Sudamerica Mayor B

I've confirmed with the Peruvian Rugby Union: no tournament in 2019.

But no explanations.

I hope everyone had a good break, here's Herrera's end of year interview

https://sudamerica.rugby/espanol/horacio-herrera-el-2019-fue-un-gran-ano-para-el-area-de-competencias-3?nid=291

Talks about a great year, but in my opinion development is lacking, I can see 10's and Rugby played in most countries which I have verified but the lack of international competition is baffling. I fear for Mayor B and Mayor C in Olympic Year. Not having international competition is not going develop the regions. As always Sudamerica talks the talk, but don't see much action coming from them.

Some interesting dates on the 2020 calendar released by SAR. Specifically, the women RWC qualifying in march (just one match, apparently) and the U20 World Championship in July (italian federation still haven't published details about dates and venue cities)

The South American Championship lost importance for Paraguay and Colombia since now the Americas Rugby Challenge offers promotion playoff.

The question is what about Peru, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Guatemala... ? At least Peru should be in the Challenge. Specialy now with the RWC Qualy...
