We have no complants. 70th place in FIFA rankings, 7 games without victories before WC, all players except Cheryshev play in Russia.
In my opinion in GULAG should be sent Spain or Croatia together with their "world stars"..

And US population is almost 100 times bigger and ...?

It isn’t our second (or maybe first) sport and we didn’t just crash out against a country a fraction of our size in a home World Cup. Take a seat.

At home championship 1994 US could not even leave group.

Re: Guide to the World Cup in Russia
Soccer was about the 25th most popular American sport then. Good one.

US citizens bought the largest number of tickets for this championship among foreign fans.

Not in 1994. Probably not today really though it has grown. But the best American athletes generally don’t aspire to be soccer players like the do in Russia. Or tiny Croatia.

The Croatians help us to get to the European Championship 2008.
Now we owe them nothing.

WRONG!
The US made the 1/8 final and then lost to later champion Brazil. 1:0.
LE: I think quarterfinals as a result and the way the did it, was way better everyone expected. After the 1:2 Russia suddenly played so well.. they deserved to be there, maybe a somewhat more positive style of play would have won against mediocre Croats.

Re: Guide to the World Cup in Russia
It"s a shame that Russia lost to this team on penalties. Russia could well make it to the finals.
I hope England win.

Re: Guide to the World Cup in Russia
They could not beat Russia - a team of 70 world rankings in regular time! Only on penalties!
Operetta finalist))) Fans of a small foul and simulators))
England played worse.

Re: Guide to the World Cup in Russia
Oh well, speaking from England. Huge traffic jams as people were trying to get home yesterday for the game - just like how I remember in 90 and 96. We allowed people to leave the office early to get home, but even getting out at 4pm the roads were full, normally rush hour peaks at 5-530pm
After the game, I went out for my usual late evening walk. There was a obvious hush about . In fact it was like Christmas morning terms of noise and traffic. You could sense the quiet disappointment. 1990 was the same, although the exit of 1998 brought about a palpable sense of disappointment the next day.
But this time I think there was pride in the performances, and a sense that the national football has repaired its connection with the public. You just cannot get away from the fact that in England, people love the national football team. Cricket team has a similar love among the English public. The RU team have some work to do in this regard.
Getting back to level of interest, as a comparison, I remember 2003 RWC final with England, and 2007 being out and about and you couldn't tell there was a big game on.
As for the final, I think Croatia are now the 13th different team to make it to the final, and with my England hat on I wouldn't want the French to go 2-1 up against England in World Cup wins. That would be too much to bear, especially given the French peoples fabled indifference towards football. Croatia are a proper football nation where a win would mean much more to them then a simple shrug of the shoulders and brief smile you'd get from French.

Re: Guide to the World Cup in Russia
Personaly i liked Belgium, Mexico and Uruguay.
France played well against Argentina, but disappointad against Belgium.
Whom i will support in the final?
Probably France. They at least won Russia a friendly match before World Cup.

Re: Guide to the World Cup in Russia
The Сhampionship is over. Russia received a good world press.
But in a few months horrible things will write about us again and we will again become a world wide horror.
Unfortunately we realize penalties worse than Croatia, otherwise Russia could compete in final against France.
Croats pulled Russia in the match against England in 2007 and the debt must be paid.
The football god was against us.
Thanks to all. Curtain.

Great tournament.
I'm not really much of a football fan these days but it was very watchable.
Congrats to France, and well done to the hosts.
