Now, nations are back with the Olympic qualifying tournaments !
Three tournaments, two places by tournaments.
1st pool (Podgorica, Montenegro / due to Covid) : Norway, Brazil, Chile, South Korea
2nd pool (Montpellier, France) : France, Croatia, Portugal, Tunisia
3rd pool (Berlin, Germany) : Germany, Sweden, Slovenia, Algeria

First group might be easy for Norway & Brazil. Second group looks the most complicated. We've seen France at a very level in the last world championship, but Croatia & Portugal are both good contenders. And Tunisia not that bad at all, not lucky with Worlds drawing. In third group, no chance for Algeria. Sweden advances as a favorite, but Slovenia & Germany are close. Very close (Slovenia - Sweden was 28-28 in last worlds).

That was a tough group, probably all teams were good enough for the final tournament. Romania beat Montenegro with only 4 goals margin and needed 5. Match was full of yellows and I think was a red as well, very tough match. Credit to both teams Romania and Montenegro to play to the last second, as Norway hinted a possible understanding between Romanian and Montenegrin ladies because most of them play in same championship in Romania. All matches were very enjoyable, hard fought..

Meanwhile, Romanian men handball hit a new low, they were beaten by Kosovo

It's quite amazing to see your women so strong, and your men so weak... Same for clubs anyway. Very surprising.

men handball used to attract more money, more interest, more attention and thus more crooks, there are stories with players from national teams not receiving airplane tickets in time to travel or at all. the second reason is the huge exodus of good coaches and players who left in 90s-2000s en masse ; women handball was smaller thus attracted less attention, was for a long time on second place so had time to develop naturally without losing huge number of players and especially coaches.

As for today, men handball is full of scandal while women handball is an example of good practices, albeit there are discussion that there is a too big number of foreign players.
