Re: 2020 Olympics
Big chances of seeing Mexico in the Olympics, with USA and Canada almost qualified in the Top4 of the WSS...

Re: 2020 Olympics
Nope, they made a provision on Olympic qualifiers meaning that North America will lost its direct spot if that's the case.

It would be given to repechage runner-ups.

Bingo. Anyway the European tournament is going to be carnage, it's three spots at max for five teams. Lots of Olympic funding a stake.

Re: 2020 Olympics
Black Ferns have qualified for the Olympics. Sans melt down, USA will qualify with one match in Biarritz. Canada needs to win two matches in pool play to be safe. Australia only team threatened by France.

Here's the article talking about it
https://rugbyamericasnorth.com/cayman-i ... etitions/#
RAN Sevens will be the next step for regional teams to qualify for the Olympics. In the men’s competition, the top placed team will qualify for the Olympics and the 2nd and 3rd placed teams will go through to a final World Rugby Olympic Repechage tournament. On the women’s side, the top placed team will qualify automatically for the 2020 Olympics unless both Canada and the USA have both pre-qualified, in which case the top team from the regional qualifier will play in the final repechage tournament.
A bit harsh in my opinion.

Brazil, Fiji, China, Kenya, GB*(I think England will win it like last time and then select from the other nations)
Repechage: France and Spain

Re: 2020 Olympics
Brazil, Fiji, China, South Africa and France IMO. France is now the best in Europe for sure.
Repechage: GB/Ireland/Russia/Spain, 2 of them, really close.
They've said anything this time? if they are hosting the Qualy I don't think they'll give up... but they gave up from HK, so who knows? If so, Kenya (but it would be awesome to see Madagascar qualifying as a wild underdog).

Re: 2020 Olympics
South Africa giving up its Olympic spot isn't a SARU decision but a usual policy from their NOC. Spain inherited their women's hockey spot for example in 2016. BTW, they hosted African qualifiers that time in that sport.

Yes. They definitely will play it. Twelve teams in total. The 10 teams from last year plus 2 others - Kenya, Uganda, Tunisia, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Botswana, Zambia, Morocco, Mauritius, South Africa and Nigeria.

Can't argue with that. Possibly Russia will take the direct European spot as they are at home. They can be great one match and terrible the next. Japan could push China close.
