Womens 7's rugby - general news
Re: Womens 7's rugby - general news
I got the info that the Marcoussis tournaments AREN'T part of the WR Sevens Series, as not all core teams will be involved, which means WR's release has a mistake

In today's launch it was announced that Spain, USA, Ireland, France, Russia and Kenya have confirmed their presence so far according to MARCA.

Those dates are a bit conflicting with my hypothesis about the RWC qualifiers schedule: I thought that the second part of February was the most likely time to play the last two games of the Euro pre-qualifiers (Spain v Russia, Spain v Netherlands), but if the Spanish, Russian and maybe Netherlander 7s national teams are playing in those two weekends I suppose that the RWC XV games will be fixed or before or (more probably) later. In the first two weekends of March, I'd say

Re: Womens 7's rugby - general news
Statement from World Rugby re. Russia's involvement in the Olympic repecharge (don't get excited....):
"World Rugby notes the decision announced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the Russian Anti-Doping Agency’s non-compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code. While awaiting the opportunity to review the full written judgement and consider its implications in detail, it would be inappropriate at this time to comment on any impact on World Rugby matters."
So the best you can say is that they have not said Russia will definitely take part. Spain may wish to keep their training boots on.

Sorry, John, does the statement specifically mention Olympic 7s? Because if it doesn't it may be related to 2027 and 2031 RWC bids, since hosts must be selected before Russia's ban expires.
As it's been lately decide I can't see how Russian national teams can be barred from taking part in the Olympics.

Sorry - should have said - it was in reply to my question specifically about the Tokyo Olympics.

Brazil is out, since the country's poor response to covid made us world's pariah. This means all flights to Spain are suspended. Good job.

Canadian 7's is a mess with a investigation going on over coaching and player behaviour. The Coach has been let go and a new one is coming from Australia in April.

Do you know something more? All leads to suspect that the coach had some unappropriate behavior
I've read that the team is temporarily coached by two italo-canadian: Sandro Fiorino and Maria Gallo (and one of the leaders of the squad is an other italo-canadian, Bianca Farella)
