Interesting take. I normally hate uneven groups, but in 7s, where you have a lot of time in between anyways, that could work.

I like the new format, sincerely. The only problem is to change it in the middle of the season IMO.

Stellenbosch will host World Series qualifier tournament:

What a coincidence that all these qualifiers (2016 Olympics, probably 2020, this) end up hosted by Tier 1 men nations, eh?

Certainly just a coincidence
The real news is, that South Africa apparently lets their women play 7s to qualify for something again. Are they allowed to play in the Olympics?

NO! But I guess they changed their mind. It's a illogical flaw to not let them play for the Africa crown (too easy!!!11) and to prohibit to qualify for the event where they could actually qualify from... ^^

Chinese national team is already training together. If the google translation is correct, they never stopped to train together, even if in anti-epidemic modalities. In the video, yet, they don't seem to use particular precautions, apart maybe avoiding contact training

Chinese women's football team starts a new model of anti-epidemic training
2020-05-08

The Chinese women's football team has been training for nearly five months since it was assembled in mid-December last year. In the event of the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics and the absence of events at home and abroad, in order to mobilize the enthusiasm of young athletes and stimulate training motivation to keep the morale of the team, in addition to normal field training and strength training, rugby-style basketball and handball competitions are personalized Targeted training ... The coaching staff worked hard in the training mode.

At the beginning of march the turkish city of Antalya hosted a 7s nine-days camp (the "Yellow mellon camp") with the national teams of Ukraine and Georgia (and maybe Norway) and the Taldıqorğan club from Kazakhstan.
Strangely no turkish teams; maybe there are no women rugby players in the region of Antalya

There is a proposal for a Spanish 7s national league with 8 rounds overlapping with XV from October to May:
https://www.yosoynoticia.es/fiatc/la-co ... gby-seven#

So far only Andalucia has 7s as the main code for women's rugby, it's almost non existing in other places, reduced to summer events.
