Resuming

Postby Canalina » Sat, 27 Jun 2020, 08:12

I wanted to attempt a resuming resume

Russia: the championship started two weeks ago, with a 10% spectators capacity on the stands

Romania: competitions will restart in august. From august 1 the Romania Cup, from august 15 the Super Liga (15 aug barrage, 22 aug semifinals, 29 aug final)

Netherlands: trainings with no restrictions will resume on July 1, the competitions will restart in October

Lithuania/Latvia: the Baltic Cup starts today, with four lithuanian clubs and two latvian ones. No restricted number but social distancing for the spectators

Japan: in July the Level 5 of the post-Covid pathway starts. The athletes may go to contact; after 8 weeks of training the competitions are supposed to restart (id est, more or less, at the beginning of September).

European Cups: Champions and Challenge will resume on September 18 with the quarterfinals. The new season begins at the beginning of December.

France: the women national team already gathered with, apparently, full contact. The men 7s national team will gather in the next days

Fiji: local competitions will start on July 25, with halved capacity in the stands

New Zealand: the Aotearoa Cup started two weeks ago

Other?...

Georgia: Total MESS -- Union elections postponed three times. Hence, there is NO authority to make decision

Clubs spent state funding up to May. Now they refuse to play the remainder without money

Out of 10 clubs only two: Batumi and Akademia are in favor of completing season: 4 rounds + 4 week play-off

Others prefer to cancel season stopped after 14 rounds, and start anew with MONEY which does NOT exist

Brazil: 2021. The 2020 national championship is canceled and there is little hope that the regional championships will happen. After all, we are (as predicted) the number 2 most affected in the world, so....

Spain: FER released three different start dates for División de Honor reliant on government guidelines, 20 September, 11 October or 15 November. A decision must be published two months in advance. Clubs are currently allowed to train without contact. Kids and amateurs won't be allowed to play with contact until November, probably January.

A new list I had prepared for our italian fb page some days ago, google translated from italian so maybe a bit rusty to read

Australia: Australian Super Rugby kicks off on July 3rd.

Belgium: Competitions are expected to resume in September.

Brazil: In Brazil, one of the countries most affected by the pandemic in the world, competitions will not resume before 2021. The 2020 championship has been canceled.

China: at least the national teams seem to have started training in a group for several weeks, but perhaps still without real contact.

European Cups: as EPCR announced in recent days, the Champions and the Challenge will resume on 18 September with the quarterfinals of the 2019/20 season. The finals are scheduled for mid-October. At the beginning of December the new season starts, in which (hopefully) extraordinary the clubs of the Italian Top12 will not participate

Fiji: local competitions will start again on July 25th, with capacity halved in the stands

France: the women's XV and 7s national teams have already started gathering and training in classic ways, albeit maintaining sanitary precautions in the locker rooms and off the pitch. The men's 7s national team will meet for the first time in the coming days, after the long suspension.

Georgia: uncertainty reigns in the state of the bearded Lelos. The elections of the oval board have already been postponed three times and therefore there is no authority capable of making decisions on the resumption of activity. Some clubs would like to complete the 2019/20 season while others would prefer to consider it canceled. The economic situation of the clubs, however, is not good and these months of rest without certainties have aggravated it

Japan: Phase 5 of the return to rugby will begin in July. Athletes will be able to meet in training but will have to continue to observe two meters of social distance off the field. Phase 5 is expected to last eight weeks, that is, until the end of August.

Lithuania / Latvia: The Baltic Cup starts today, with the best Lithuanian and Latvian clubs. No limitation on the number of spectators, who must however maintain a precautionary distance from each other.

New Zealand: The Aotearoa Cup started in mid-June.

Netherlands: Unrestricted training will resume on July 1st, competitions in October.

Czech Republic and Slovakia: the season has already started again with the dispute of the 7s national championships.

Romania: competitions will start again in August, with the Romanian Cup (from 1 August) and then with the conclusion of the championship (15, 22, 29 August: barrage, semifinals, final).

Russia: the championship has already started for two weeks, although the public can only use 10% of the stands.

Samoa: the local championship in a compact format (“Taula All Stars”, named after the sponsor Taula who prepares drinks) started last Saturday.

Serbia: Senior 7s Championship played on 2 tournaments, U18 7s played on one tournament, U16 Cup on 2 tournaments and U12&U14 Cup on one tournament. Senior Championship is postponed for September

Spain: the Spanish federation has indicated three different possible shooting dates for the Division de Honor, the maximum national championship: September 20, October 11, November 15. The decision on the chosen date must be communicated at least two months in advance. The clubs are training but without contact; youth and amateur categories will not be able to play with contact at least until November, perhaps until January.

South Africa: franchises are expected to resume training on July 6, although government clearance is yet to come. We hope to start playing again in August

Turkey: 2020 season is cancelled

Germany: season 2019/20 is cancelled with no promotion/relegation. Next season is scheduled to start in september.

Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

Poland: Ekstraliga cancelled without champion and relegation. The new season will start August 15. Second league level restarted June 20 to determine one team to promotion and will end (shortened) next weekend. Also the friendly games between Ekstraliga teams began (two independent cups).

There is a chance in Brazil to have short versions of the state championships in the end of the year, but most people are not optimistic.

Full contact training in set groups is allowed in some German states now. Bavaria followed yesterday.

UGANDA: In May, the Uganda Rugby Union provided 3 options for the return of rugby, all depending on when the government lifts the suspension of all sporting activities.

As it stands now, from those options:

1 - Sports resume in August 2020: Play the remaining 5 game weeks of the XV league, and have a shortened national 7s series (6 rounds). Kick off the 2020/21 season in October with the XV league.
2 - Sports resume in September 2020: Play the remaining 5 game weeks of the XV league. Sevens series cancelled. Kick off the 2020/21 season in October with the XV league.

The priority is to maintain the calendar year with thoughts on having no carried-over local rugby into the international season between May and September the next year.

Where the new season of the national XV championship has already started?

I'd say Russia, New Zealand, Australia, South Korea, Latvia/Lithuania

I have no precise infos about. Top12 clubs are training in group and the owners are doing new contracts, so they are faithful in a new "normal" season; it should start in autumn, following the tradition, but the Federation has no published any date so far, if I have not missed it. The national teams senior and U20 are training in these days

The unavoidable map (in green the countries where the championship already started, in light green the countries where just the 7s championship started)
