Was Spain undercooked? I honestly wasn't expecting that result.

As Mcruic wrote in the men sector, Asia Rugby 2020 calendar presents three (To Be Confirmed) women divisions: championship, division one, division two (see the last lines)

https://www.asiarugby.com/calendar-2020/

If each division was composed by a minimum of three teams, it would be an outstanding total of nine nations competing. In the world ranking there are just eight asian nations, some of which are absent from international panorama from several years: Japan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, India, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Philippines

Perhaps a return of Kazakhstan? They used to be a (relatively) big name in women's rugby.

...and Kazakhstan, you are right. There are nine asian nations in the ranking, not eight

I have 12 in my rankings ;-)

Laos, Kyrgyzstan and Malaysia.

Not sure what happened to women's rugby in Kyrgyzstan. They played 7s to a good level some years ago (managing to beat China and Sri Lanka and only losing to Hong Kong by 10 points).

Sometime, mostly in the past years when women's rugby was less played, you needed just a good small group of girls, better if from the same school and used to train together, to conquer some result on international tier III level. Once that group dissolved because of age or other commitments, there was not a base of other girls to replace them.
This is my feeling, at least

Big announcement on Tuesday? Are they going to confirm RWC expansion? https://twitter.com/BillBeaumont/status ... 4385946624

In this edition already? Or from the 2025 one?

Anyway, I would be glad: times are ripe for this change. Looking the ranking we see that nations #13 to #16 are South Africa, Samoa, Kazakhstan and Russia; all of them seem not out of place in a World Cup. And behind them there are Netherlands, Hong Kong, Sweden, Germany, Fiji.
I hope your suspect is correct

It could be. There has been noise in recent times, both with the tentative of Nations Cup in Valencia and a sort of European Championship.

With the try scored today Sofia Stefan should become the second all time italian try-scorer
To note that the first five positions...

Furlan 16 tries
Severin 14 tries
Stefan 14 tries
Barattin 12 tries
L.Stefan 12 tries

...see players with truncated surnames, that are typical of Veneto region (in the rest of northern Italy they would be Severini, Stefani, Barattini)

Oh, and I've read that tomorrow Italy will be 5th in the world ranking, incredible!
I still think that it's a ranking a bit overestimating, but, well, just a bit. It would be interesting to see our team versus Australia or Usa. In 7s they are definitively stronger, in XV there must be more room to some surprise

One of my favourite rugby youtubers, Squidge Rugby, made his latest video about this weekend's France v England game. Nice to see more publicity for the women's game!

North America Championship will be on the 10s version this year too

So probably an other year without test games for T&T, Jamaica, Guyana and the other caribbean teams included in the World Ranking

Wales v Italy whole game (on the same channel there are also Fra-Eng and Sco-Ire)
I think there were four tries apparently scored by the italians (which exulted for) and then cancelled by the TMO; by Bettoni, Magatti, again Magatti, Tounesi. A sort of world record

Ten thousands enthusiast fans in Limoges too, yesterday evening for France v Italy.
The french women team attract more spectators than the men's REC games, maybe Georgia home matches apart
France dominated Italy, as it was quite predictable despite the incredible home victory of Italy in the past edition; just an intercept coast-to-coast try by Sara Barattin for us. All in all, anyway, a nice game to watch
I think we will be favorite at home against Scotland, while in Ireland it should be an hard, balanced game.
An unlucky french substitute prop entered on the field at the middle of the second half but accused a muscular pain just when she was running from the bench to the centre of the field and she had to exit immediately. The briefest permanence on the field ever?

Scotland v England reschedule, match is closed doors. real shame and feels more like punishing the women's game.

https://www.sixnationsrugby.com/2020/02/09/50712/

Weather conditions in Edinburgh on Monday will not be as severe as Glasgow but still forecast as challenging so the game will not be open to the public or have tickets on sale.

Ticketholders will automatically receive a full refund by Friday 14 February, removing any requirement to contact the Scottish Rugby ticket office

Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica Have started to train through pre-selection National XV's squads. Matched scheduled on the 8th of March.
Hardly any promotion from Sudamerica Rugby which is not surprising but good to see initial steps and seeds being planted for development of the sport.

This victory was not really unexpected - Italy were above Wales in the rankings before the match.

Good news. Let's hope that World Rugby take note of that March 8th's Guatemala v El Salvador and consider it an official game, even if at this stage of their adventure this is not so important
