Restart in Uruguay was delayed by a week. It seems that the Uruguayan Union and the clubs needed some additional time to meet the health protocols established by the government. No Covid-19 flare-up or new cases are either explicitly mentioned or hinted. New date: Oct 22nd

This means delay in the South American Championship, I guess?

The new start date is August 22, not October 22.

Explain me one thing please: is there any sort of promotion/relegation system from Campeonato del Interior to the Primera División? What is the path for an Interior club to reach the top level?

I guess that clubs may apply.

The Interior de Primera clubs are Artigas, Búfalos, Caranchos, Cardos, La Olla, San Javier, Sacramento and Veterinaria.

The Interior de Reserva clubs are Cardos (the only B team), Cimarrones, Mulitas, Robles, Salto and Vickingos.

Indios CRM will play the Uruguayo de Preintermedia, and La Olla and Vaimaca will play the Uruguayo de Preintermedia B.

No. As far as I know, clubs can ask where to play. If these interior clubs perform well, they will eventually ask to play in higher divisions.

I guess that they consider travel costs and competitive level. Even a 200 km travel may be considered far for such clubs.

Also, I think that some interior clubs have two structures, one in their hometown and a second in Montevideo. Have in mind that young adults often move to Montevideo to study in a university.

So their main sides will play again preintermedia sides of top Montevideo clubs? That's interesting.

Yes. This is not new. Here you can see old fixtures. There were clubs from Libertad, Durazno and Florida playing Pre-intermedia.

Ahhh...the Old Rugby News. It was my favorite news hub to read about Rugby in Uruguay. I guess Nacho Chans is too busy at el Observador to keep updating it. @NaBUru38, do you know if there are any other sites or specialized programs that cover Rugby in Uruguay?. All the ones I followed went the way of the dinosaurs: Rugby news, El Show del Rugby, La Hora del Rugby, Rugbyshow, etc, etc. I mean other than a few twitter account and the URU page. Muchas gracias!!!!

No there's now full-time Uruguayan rugby website other than the union's. There's quite a few twitter accounts, some with podcasts.

Japan is opting out of the 8 team tournament later this year. Any chance Uruguay can replace them? The national team has play in the last two RWC, beat Fiji, their players are currently playing in their home country, and the national side is going to be playing in the South American championships later this year. I would say Uruguay will be more than prepared to take Japans spot.

That will be a question decided most likely by travel restrictions. Expect Georgia, Tonga or Samoa most likely using only European based players.

Samoa and Canada backed Beaumont. Don't be surprised if they get offered it first.

Most of the Samoa squad, like the Fiji players, are based in Britain or France.

Georgia is the highest ranked team left... let's wait to see if there will be justice of another excuse.

The Uruguayan Rugby Championship is underway. There's been no Teros training as far as I know.

Also the South American Championship is tentatively scheduled for October.
